National Day Celebration continues in Hulhumeedhoo


Children’s Evening conducted by www.meedhoolive.com and www.hulhudhootoday.com at Seenu Atoll School as part of national day celebrations in Hulhumeedhoo ended yesterday. Hundreds of children from Meedhoo and Hulhudhoo participated in the event, where winners of Island Casual’s Annual Promotion 2008 were announced.

“This is the first event of this magnitude involving leadership of Hulhumeedhoo youth, I am very pleased to see them working together for the betterment of our islands”, said a woman. Children were treated without any discrimination, rich or poor, Hulhudhoo or Meedhoo and every participant was addressed as a member of the evening. Though turn up from Meedhoo side was high towards start up, children from Hulhudhoo side started to flock as the evening proceeded.

‘Every child gets a prize’ was the motto of the evening. The organizers of the event emphasized heavily on children participation in all the games. Games included relay race, sprints, hit the rat, basket, musical chair, sack race, singing and many more. Facial painting was conducted separately in a different stall. All the children participated in almost all the games and won several prizes with varying prices.

“This is just the beginning of enhancing our socio partnership within the community and we plan to strengthen this further and involve every corner of the society’, stated Hulhudhoo Today’s editor, Ahmed Azleem. He also quoted saying children evening as ‘essential’ for the children of both the islands. According to him, poor infrastructure at parks and unavailability of required equipments in those parks seldom amuse the children who love to visit those places.

Mr. Fathimath Nisreen, Coazy nest, S.Hulhudhoo came first of

Island Casual’s Annual Promotion 2008 which was held between November 11, 2008 to January 11, 2009. She was awarded a Washing Machine. Mr. Hassan Saeed, Palm Shade, S.Hulhudhoo won a Mixer as second place in the draw and Mr. Mohamed Shiaar, Dhonaabuge, S.Meedhoo won the Rice Cooker as third place. Mr. Ahmed Latheef, Island Casual owner, said that he was very delighted with the respond he had received after launching the promotion last year, and that he planned to launch the promotion this year as well.

National Day celebration are still underway in Hulhumeedhoo. Today evening a netball match between young stars and the rest is scheduled to be played at Dimish Kara. These are signs of progress Hulhumeedhoo people have achieved interms of social responisibility and partnership.
