Father of six children dies in Hulhudhoo

Mohamed Zuhair, 36, Everest, S.Hulhudhoo died this morning while he was fishing with his two children in the west coast of “Kolenta”. Doctors at Hulhudhoo Meedhoo Health Center confirmed his death due to tremor. Mohamed Zuhair, known best among his pals as ‘Bobbo’, had history of convulsion three times before he got another deadlier one today.

Mohamed Zuhair has six children and a wife. The eldest is studying in fourth grade at Hulhudhoo School. His two children felt he was swimming and when he did not turn up to their repeated calls, they went and brought the eldest son of Ahmed Zahir, ‘Heras’, who pulled Mohamed Zuhair’s dead body to the shallow area.

Mohamed Zuhair’s drug addiction and abusive behavior is well known among Hulhumeedhooans. After marriage and being father of six children, nothing much had changed to his life.

This is the second consecutive death of similar incidence in two years. Last year a prominent figure of drug and alcohol abusive community, “Kadhurey” died while he was on the fishing vessel. Crew of the vessel had said he also got a tremor before he fell into the sea and vanished.

The importance of eradicating drug abusive behavior among vast population of Hulhumeedhoo community is very important today. Before a large proportion of Hulhumeedhoo population submerges into the sea, we all shall stand up to protect and prevent the drug addiction and drug abuse within our community.

  1. The addiction in Hulhudhoo is much higher than we can understand. The worst thing is we have so many young and children joining the gangs every day. This has to be addressed carefully and before its too late. but the reality is we as Hulhudhuans do too little to prevent our next generation from this disaster

  2. Perhaps the time has come for us to act. The social problems we face today in Hulhudhoo and around Maldives is due to ignorance of social cohesion. There comes a time in every community to leave behind their difference and stand up for the benefit of whole. I am sure we as a people will realize this soon enough..!

  3. The main reason that we are not able to solve drugs problem is that the top class doesnt see any importance in curtailing drugs in Hulhudhoo. They dont see any reason for this is because most of the victims of drugs belongs to families of lower financial status. Unless or otherwise the high class of hulhudhoo takes a kind of self initiation the drug problem will remain stigmatised in the society forever. The top people are seflish bunch of idiots who comes to the islands only to get votes.
