As an immediate measure to facilitate easy administration and to involve more people in the government, MDP led coalition split the country into six regional zones managerially headed by six state ministers. Addu atoll and Fuvahmulak zone is among the six zones and has become the apple of discord for the new government. According to government, decentralization provides the local government with much authority and opportunity to make decisions removing sluggish administrative obstacles. In today’s world, major developed countries practice decentralization as part of the democratic tool to boost the productivity of the local area or city.
Some people of Fuvahmulak are suspicious of their population becoming vulnerable before Addu if they agree on government’s plan to become partners in development with the people of Addu. They think Addu being so populous in the nation, minority’s voice will not reach out to the main government. However, Fuvahmulak’s appeal for the government then and now to develop an international airport and a commercial docking port could be disastrous for the atoll in future. At a time when the government is running with billions of rufiyaa’s deficit budget, how rational are Fuvahmulak’s dream to develop an international airport. Questions regarding the feasibility of such a project show shear depression.
Economically Fuvahmulak will benefit from the proposed infrastructure in the short run. However as the population grow over the ages shortage of land could become fatal for them. Reclamation of their sea is limited and almost impossible. Any effort to settle down in the center of the atoll might not work out due to lower level of ground. According to various sources it would have been better had Fuvahmulak people demanded for a seaplane between Gan and Fuvahmulak. Developing and maintaining an airport will incur greater cost than going for a seaplane with limited staff in it. A cargo carrier should have been scheduled to carry goods from regional dock in Hithadhoo to Fuvahmulak. Certainly half the proposed government expenditure would be reduced.
If the government pursue with the proposed projects by Fuvahmulak, which do have viable alternatives, will increase the pressure on the ruling party to provide same facilities to all the islands or atolls that have similar difficulties. Now the question is how many big islands or atolls are waiting for the same facilities from the government.

The doors opened for MPs for every 5000 population in the nation have brought chaos in Hulhumeedhoo following the rectification of the new legislation this year. It is believed that Hulhumeedhoo is the largest politically hit island in the nation be it parliamentary election or presidential election. As such today we are seeing an atmosphere heating up similar to that in Hulhumeedhoo for the next year’s parliamentary election in February.
According to reliable sources more than fifteen candidates are fighting for the seat of Hulhumeedhoo. One would wonder where all have these candidates emerged suddenly. Candidates who never said a word post Anni-regime are now trying to falsify the history of politicians in Hulhumeedhoo. Since our childhood we have been seeing Mr. Ahmed Didi (Sandhaan Ahamma) criticizing the government for personal hatred to politically driven motives. Does he deserve the seat for Hulhumeedhoo? Many think yes while much of the younger generation is skeptical of his self-centered attitudes. They say he very often changes his political direction when there is a conflict of interest in the leadership of the party he resides. On the other hand, few candidates have a good track records of criticizing the Gayyoom led administration in the coffee shops and restaurants in Male’ or elsewhere in the country. Some have never been found saying a word against Gayyoom’s brutal regime, yet started flocking on the streets of Hulhudhoo.
Now the problem for any of these candidates would be the affirmation of their investment on campaign would really worth? Candidates are from high profile families of the island and are ready to spend thousands of money to grab most votes. Approximately 1900 and 700 votes from Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo respectively and almost 15 or more likely candidates would split the islands dramatically. None of the candidates shall win more than 200 votes if this is going to be the scenario. Our fellow brothers and sisters from Meedhoo side are a good example of unity. They are united behind their island personal Dr.Afeef which means easier passage for Afeef to win the seat. There are reports of Mr. Moosa Fathuhy withdrawing his name to make Dr.Afeef’s journey easy and less volatile.
For Hulhumeedhooans this is just the beginning of a new era of opportunities. First time one of our brothers is directly going to represent our islands. The question is who would be that person, how much he knows about the problems in our community and how well he could address to these issues in the parliament. As parliamentary elections gets closer more and more disguised candidates are due to appear.

Drug induced crimes have become a day to day activity on the streets of Hulhumeedhoo. The latest tragedy that took place adjacent to the Hulhudhoo Meedhoo Health Center today truly signified the state of drug abuse and state failure in the declaration of civil law and order. Ilyas Fuvad 31 years of age ran into the wall of the house adjacent to the Health Center and got severe injuries to the head. "He was on high when he hit against the wall and had no control over his motor bike" an eyewitness of the incident clarified. He added Ilyas was zigzagging on the road due to the effect of his drug use. According to police, he was released from police custody just three hours before the incident for accidentally hitting against the police van. The van got minor damages and was tinted by Hi-Energy Pvt Ltd for a sum of Mrf500.00, which Ilyas was liable to pay. Due to the unavailability of X-Ray machine and other required medical expertise, he was referred to Hithadhoo Regional Hospital at around 1700hrs.
The preceding month is seeing as a revolt of last month's presidential election. As seen in the picture to the right, four brothers fought each other and Shiraf Mohamed got badly injured with a cutter blade while another got his scalp fracture. Reports confirmed drugs being the crux of the problem.
These people were good from the time we started to know them. Ilyas Fuvad is one of the best football palayers Hulhudhoo has ever seen. His dribbling skills were practised by the younger generations. One could never believe he might caomeacross such a bad turning point in his career. He was believed to be introduced to drugs in 1990s when dozens of Hulhudhooans were being hooked by the same evil. Government did nothing to stop spreading the epidemic across the island where the island was once renouned as the education city in the country.
Hence we call on the government authorities to close the doors which was opened for drugs entry in the last three decades. We also like to bring to the kind attention of the state at large that Hulhudhoo is the worst drug hit island in the country and if no actions are taken to stop drug supply, the fear of becoming Hulhudhoo a desert is not far away.

The recently opened, yet remake of the previous Health Center in a different location in Hulhumeedhoo delighted its people for reasons indefinable. People started burying their heartbreaking memories of travelling Hithadhoo Regional Hospital to do minor scans and X-Rays to single stitches. Millions of rufiyya would have cost Hulhumeedhooans during the past eighteen years for traveling Hithaadhoo for medication on reference by the health center.
Few things have changed certainly. Patients find the new structure spacious, clean and free of congestion. However little or no improvements have come to the quality of services provided despite vague promises by the ex-Health Minister Mr.Ilyas Ibrahim. With a single doctor on duty, dozens of patients in ward and ever-increasing number of OPD patients, managing the center apart from the limited services they provide, is in a big mess.
The policies of the government are largely to blame for the medical failures and preventable fatalities the center went through since its initial opening some eighteen years ago. Poor health facilities, fewer stock, damaged equipments and inexperienced doctors made the Hulhumeedhoo community search for better health care, which resulted in the mass immigration of people from both the islands in the 1990s. However, records of the past 10 years show that Hulhumeedhoo Health Center is qualified to move from the present category to Hospital Level. “We achieved the benchmark set out by the Department of Medical Services for health centers halfway through the year,” Ms. Aminath Mohamed Didi said. She stated that Hulhumeedhoo health center is now ready to be upgraded to an atoll hospital considering the surging number of OPDs in the last three years.
Despite all these facts government was negligent about the soaring condition in Hulhumeedhoo. On several occasions at different level, Hulhumeedhooans have raised their voice to the designated authorities duly. So far, nothing has been done to improve the services of the center other than shifting the existing building to a different occasion.
Today we hope our voices would reach the newly elected government and put an end to the soaring health care or facilitate better services to the ease the detrimental situation in Hulhumeedhoo Health Center. The healthier the nation the wealthier it could become!

Sea wall construction at the two opposite sides of Hulhumeedhoo is underway. The 1200ft long seawall, which is been built on the southeast side coast of Hulhudhoo has got a budget of Mrf2,800,000. The project is run on three different phases where the length of each phase is 400ft and the price determined accordingly. For each phase notices were made by the office calling for interested bidders to submit their bid documents. Island Development Committee evaluates the bids and sanctions the best potential bidder to go ahead with the project.
Island Express of Hulhudhoo won the race both the times and has successfully accomplished the two phases in time. The General Manager of Island Express Mr. Rilwan has confirmed the completion of the second phase last week. At the other end of Hulhumeedhoo, Shazum Investment Pvt Ltd has completed their first phase of constructing the sea wall at northeast of Meedhoo. On invitation for the bids on remaining phases , Shazum Investment has already won their bid for second phase and entered into contract with Meedhoo Office, Island Express is highly likely to win the final phase of southeast seawall of Hulhudhoo.
The qualities of the seawalls are breathtaking. The General Manager of Island Express, who provided technical expertise to Shazum Investment on constructing their first phase of the project confirmed the life of the sea wall, is 25 years.
However, speculations are high on the streets of Hulhumeedhoo regarding the credibility of the walls against tidal waves that kept washing away the coastal areas of these regions. Many believe once the channel between Hulhudhoo and J Resorts Handufushi is complete, the pressure caused by the current of these destructive waves to the southeast coast of Hulhudhoo will become weak.

A much awaited change to the heads of Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) and Maldives Police Service finally became a reality today. The president in a private meeting called for the resignation of both Commissioner of Police Adam Zahir, the sustainer of Gayyoom’s 30 years of wicked dictatorship and Major General Mohamed Zahir of MNDF. Adam Zahir immediately appealed to keep him in government until he completes 40 years of service to the nation. However, the arrogant commissioner sought time for him to decide, which the president accepted. A while later he came back confirming his resignation from the commissioner of police. The replacement for Adam Zahir is former Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Faseeh while Moosa Jaleel became the Chief of Defense Force.

Many Politicians accuse Adam Zahir as the instigator of drug trafficking and gang fights on the streets of capital and elsewhere in the country. Special Advisor to the president Dr. Hassan Saeed during his campaign for presidency this year has accused him on several occasions for corruption and alleged criminal activity. Foreign minister Ahmed Nasheed then and now believes much of the decisions made by Gayyoom were after consultation with Adam Zahir in affirmation Gayyoom’s prolonged colonialism. However nation as a whole have an aversion to Adam Zahir for the atrocities that came about in the jails of Maafushi and Dhoonidhoo.
As new government is still gearing up for the administration of the country, scapegoats are less likely to stay in the government for charges of corruption and bribe.

This is the gift of Gayyoom's 30 years of legacy which he is proudly trying to sell to the rest of the world. Albiet one could be astonished to see the staggering growth in the number of childrens out on the streets of Hulhudhoo, signifying the direction we are headed forward due to negligence. Gayyoom's government should take all the reponsibilities for destroying our home, our families, our friends and brothers and sisters.
In Hulhumeedhoo children as young as 12 years have started using some sort of drugs and often sniff glue, mostly Dunlop. Some drink eau-de-cologne (cola water), cough medicine, and there are even reports of these children drinking “roll on ” to get high. The guys in blue and yellow are brothers enticed by the evil spirit of drugs. There are around staggering number of approximately 20 below 16 years old crowd in Hulhudhoo, who could become a menace to the entire Hulhumeedhoo shortly. Already there are reports of robbery and other serious crimes involevment by these young childrens.
Loopholes in the government law enforement authorities and inappr

opriate educational development programs are to blame for all the damages to human resources in the country. Schools should have been made more responsible in shaping the future of the students they release every year. Not every child is genius or can pursue studies like others, but sports would reconcile the gap. Today we see less schooling hours and almost no sports activities for the children. However music and stage shows are given more priorities in the school, oppening doors for childrens to go astry. Children get more time out of school now, which means they are released to a more open world where they meet different people and experiment on different things, making them vulnerable to the norms of the society.
As the saying 'let by gone and be by gone', we shall look back the past as a bad experience of a brutal dictatorship. We should stop worrying and start living now. New government should be made more responsible in addressing to these sort of issues. From parents to local institutions to police should hold their hands to recover the damages of the past. Hope for a better future for these children is likely to rise with coalition government, however the involvement of the society as a whole to fight for eradicating the odds is inevitable.

Peoples' Party registered with Election Commission of Maldives on December 27, 2007 was a sheer a sign of corruption and use of power. The Chairman of the party Mr. Ahmed Riyaz, Iruzuvaamaage, S.Hulhudhoo visited the home land Hulhudhoo three times to win over the hearts and minds of Hulhudhooans. Three times he was given a cold shoulder by even the closest members who worked for him in the island. Yet we are surprised to see from the directory set out by the election commission that 431 of PP's 3485 members are from Hulhudhoo.
On his first and second visit Mr. Ahmed Riyaz called off all the 'Parteys' in Hulhudhoo and gave each of them sets of 10 to 15 application forms. He promised some cash prizes in return, which latter beacame a big 'Hahoo' as he was spreading forge notes to addicts. These addicts obtained signatures of all addicts family. However its very obvious from the data of the EC that he might have recieved the list of Hulhudhoo people who had not joined any party. Ahmed Riyaz would have used the opportunity to duplicate as many signatures as he could, of the people who he had know being disabled or out of country. "My wife who is studying abroad is in the PP's registry" yelled a Hulhudhooan. He stated that he would take this matter to the court and sue the party leadership for breaching the law of the commission. Another man from Hulhudhoo told us that except him the rest of his family members were registered with Peoples' Party.
Kaafu Dhaalu is also due to face penalty for providing data for PP. It is believed, as Ahmed Riyaz was brought up in Kaafu Dhaalu's home, that they have very good personal bondage. For this reason and to show the nation that there a leader from Addu, Hulhudhoo who supports Gayyoom's regime, was the ambush Kaafu Dhaalu and Gayyoom gifted the silent yet corrupted Ahmed Riyaz.
The whereabouts of Mr. Ahmed Riyaz is not know since the election commission publisized the registry of the parties and reports of Hulhudhooans residing in Male' flocking into the office of Peoples Party to find him are making headlines on the streets of Hulhudhoo. As corruption unfolds more and more cases against Gayyoom and his allies are on increase, making life at home for Gayyoom and his allies risky.

As Mr. Mohamed Didi (Muhamma) very rightly tried to bring to the attention of the people out there in the party 'Together Everyone Achieves More' or TEAM, Hulhumeedhoo people have been synonymous with the saying. Since the conformation of Iththihaad win over DRP in the second round of presidential election celebrations in various parts of Hulhumeedhoo started. Famous local food and official food of the opposition movement 'Bodibaiy' parties had been held at four different areas in Hulhudhoo and two different locations in Meedhoo. In Hulhudhoo side Bodibaiy parties were held in 'Moolekede', 'Bomaa Fanne', 'Aari Thangado' and in the 'Baranda' area.
This time Iththihaad campaign leadership in Hulhumeedhoo decided that the grand party to seal off the success for Iththihaad in the presidential election should be made something different. Chicken Biriaani and Parota with Bodibaiy as a side dish were served at the party. "We prepared food for this special occasion to serve approximately 1200 people" Amjad stated.

According to reliable sources an estimated number of 1500 people would have attended the party which was open to Hulhumeedhoo people irrespective of the political party they support. High profile figures from both Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo attended this party was delighted when members of Maldives Police Service and senior management members of J Resort Hadufushi participated in the event.
Organizers of the party thankfully appreciated the people of Hulhumeedhoo for tirelessly withstanding their foot to stand against dictatorship and unjust during Maumoon's administration. Now, after all these years of suffering, could the new administration bring harmony and happiness to the people who ousted Maumoon for apartheid and corruption!

These days could be counted as the worst and fearful days in the history of Hulhumeedhoo. People as high as business owners to fishermen to the labourers from Bangladeshi are at stake and fear of either being attacked or burgled. The consequences of exploiting the heroin addicts, by providing them with abundance of money during the last month’s presidential election by some political parties, is backfiring the society on a very large and unimaginable scale today. Robbery and gang fight has since emerged when one political party lost their control in the ruling over the country.
A large warehouse of Seven Three, owned and managed by Mr. Azeez, is the latest retail business which became the victim of continuing series of burglaries in Hulhumeedhoo. The warehouse is situated east of the Seven Three shop and the owners felt secure enough by keeping a security guard at the west of the shop. At the time of incident security personal was present. However the thieves were on action at the store behind the shop, made the security unaware of their movements.
A screw driver is believed to have been used by the thieves to break in to the store. “Thieves used this screw driver to break the hollow cement bricks and made an opening (2x3ft).” an eyewitness of the first scenes in the morning stated. As the walls were not plastered by cement thieves faced no difficulties in breaking the blocks.
Roumers about the goods stolen from the store is spreading around the island. Some say five iron rods and unidentified amount of timber woods and an Mrf3,500 worth of Socket box were stolen. Yet no official wording from the owner of the shop, confirming the stolen goods has come. Analysts say this burglary would cost the owner approximately Mrf50,000.
In another incident yesterday a kids wear shop named "Zeek" was vandalized by smashing the window casement. Ths shop is just opposite to the new Bank of Maldives Hulhumeedhoo Branch. Normally the location is very secure because of the presence of many government buildings.
Damages to the shop wood cost at least Mrf10,000 but loss of any goods is unknown. One would wonder why such a huge social unrest is overwhelmingly on rise here in Hulhumeedhoo. The truth lies in the problem itself. DRUGS! Drugs are the perpetrator of all these burglaries in our island. We all shall stand together to eradicate this epidemic from our society rather than financing the addict for our private benefit or satisfaction.

Congratulation to His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Nasheed, the first ever democratically elected president in country. Mr. Mohamed Nasheed is the fourth president of the Republic of Maldives, Mohamed Ameen being the first, Ibrahim Nasir the second and finally president-cum dictator Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom till yesterday ruled over the country illegally for three decades.
With the election of Mohamed Nasheed as the new president hopes and dreams for the future started to blossom. As we know the FIVE promises he made to the nation could undoubtedly serve the country to reach higher grounds. His transportation policy would definitely benefit the people socially and financially. Easy and cheap passage for people to move from one island to the other and one atoll to the other means movement of technical expertise, diversification of cultural activities, strengthening of islamic brotherhood etc. Promising a cheap housing policy for all the Maldivian is the best this government has declared in its manifesto. This would surely reduce the burden on low income earners to own a house or a flat. It would also help reduce family problems associated with living two to three families in a single house. Mohamed Nasheed's promise to bring all the people above 65 years under a pension scheme is awesome. This is something we had dreamed long before for our mothers and fathers who did fishing to all odd works to educate and make us responsible citizens for the nation. His governments another promise to reduce prices of all sorts of household items is inevitable. Almost 60% of the income today is spent on general household items, raising the cost of living to an unimaginable height. Today 80% of our working population is relying on the part time job, to pay for the rising cost of goods, to keep their families alive. Eliminating the gate ways opend for illegal drug traffiking is indeed the most important and urgent measure to be taken to bolster the weakening social morale in the country. Their last promise to facilitate free or cheap medication to all the people is worth 100 times the benefit we get from developing tourism. We need better health facilities, free diagnostic and operations arrangements within our locality or country at least. For major treatments welfare will be geared up for financing the needy. The healthier the population of the country the wealthier the nation could become.
Five promises, fourteen ministries, five years term could someone imagine the realization of a better days? The answer is obviously yes, but the government should be made responsible by the people, as this is a people's government. We wish very best of luck to the new government and guarantees that Mohamed Nasheed will keep his MDP Iththihaad promise to hold a mid-term election. With H.E Mr.Mohamed Nasheed and his cabinet Hulhumeedhoo will sail the country towards success in every aspect of development.

For many Hulhumeedhuans last Friday night was a real nightmare. People have become so ruthless that they do not look before they leap in doing what could be disastrous to many. The famous Junaid known locally as '
Mussanthi Juna' had become the victim of jealousy and apartheid inherited in our Muslim brotherhood. Two Jeeps worth of Mrf1,300,000 was set to blaze on fire inside the 600 square feet garage which was built a month ago to accommodate these two lavish and luxurious vehicles. The Jeep to the left of the picture is a brand new vehicle costing approximately 800,000 maldivian rufiya. It is insured with Allied insurance company who paid for the damages of a recent accident at Herathera. The brand new garage is also burned to ashes and that shop adjacent to garage was also affected.
"Two police man came here and stood wondering what could be done to get rid of the blazing fire" an eye witness accused. He added that if the police had come with full security measures then at least one vehicle could have been secured. Mourning neighbors yelled to stop Mr. Mohamed Haleem from entering into garage to protect the jeep before it caught on fire. Haleem is the brother in low of Junaid and he holds the responsibility of looking after vehicles. A friend of Haleem told me that 35% of his body is burned when he tried to protect at least one Jeep. Reports say that he's undergoing treatment for burns in Sri Lanka and his conditions is recovering.
The owner of 1.3 million rufiyaa worth Jeeps regrets badly over the injuries to his brother in law and admits incident could have been the result of a personal matter, however he at a latter time came on television saying it as a politically motivated act.
Apart from the incident happend in Meedhoo side, 3 retail shops were robbed the same night. Around nine in the night Finifenmaa Store was burgled. According to Mr. Solih an O2 phone, a digital camera and wallet of Mrs. Solih was stolen. "The number of goods stolen from the shop is not know" Mr. Solih stated. However some people suggest an estimated amount of goods worth of Mrf1,500 was stolen. Daisy Store was robbed by breaking the door lock with a iron rod. The owner of two dhonis and shop, Mr. Hussain Mohamed, said an amount not less than Mrf 2,500 was missing from the cash drawer. Loss of any goods is yet to confirm. Another shop which became the home for the thieves were 'Hassan Azeezuge Fihaara'. We found that the same iron rod and techniques were used to break the door in these two shops. "3 cases of Noodles, 2 dozen Splash Cologne, a Basmathi rice bag, 1kg Milo tin and a tooth paste were stolen as far as my calculation is concerned" Hassan Azeez confirmed.
These incidents brought real shock to the peace loving Hulhumeedhuans and are deeply sympathetic to Mr. Mohamed Haleem who got 35% of his body burned while trying to save a Jeep. We strongly urge the government to try as much as they can to protect private properties and lives. We also like to bring to the attention of the police the importance of keeping a Fire section of the police in Hulhumeedhoo. We are sympathetic of the people and business affected and we ask for patience at this time of grief.

After the unprecedented victory to Dr. Hassan Saeed in the first round of presidential election on October 5, 2008, supporters and followers of his ideology backed Iththihaadhu as Hassan himself very firstly endorsed Wathan Edhey Gothah to support Anni, who came to second place to compete Maumoon, without any condition. 90% of the people who voted for Dr. Hassan Saeed in the first round accepted his advice to back Iththihaadhu just to say NO to the brutal dictatorship proceeding to another 5 years term. He convinced the people of Hulhumeedhoo that if any of us vote Maumoon the vote is not given to him actually, rather it becomes a vote given to his brother Mr. Yameen-the Mafia Leader. From addicts at the streets of Hulhumeedhoo to fisherman in the vast addu sea to mothers crying for a better day to their children in Addu at large decided their vote shall not go wasted and they would vote for a change-so then the engine of Iththihaadhu movement started.
On this day of Iththihaadhu rally an estimated number of 1500 people from Hulhumeedhoo participated, while as many as 14 vehicles and not less than 100 motor cycles were used. More and more people started visiting Iththihaadhu campaign offices to watch live VTV presentations on big screens located at three different locations in Hulhumeedhoo.
